Notes on The Results of Attending The Seminar about Life Changing-Experience

Last week on Saturday, I attended a seminar about life-changing experiences from a speaker who is currently studying abroad at Queensland University of Technology. The speaker shared her experience of getting a scholarship and studying abroad. There were several things discussed by the speaker during the seminar. The first thing discussed was how important it is to know yourself, to understand your identity. This could include your role in your family, like being a child, and what you should do as a child in the family, like obeying your parents and being a good family member. Similarly, in our current identity in the educational environment, we need to understand our identity as students and our duty as students, which is to learn and grow to prepare ourselves for the future.

Besides knowing our identity, the speaker also talked about the importance of understanding our environment, starting from a small scale like our family. For example, in a family, there might be some issues or conflicts, but it's important to realize that in every family, there are both good and bad aspects. Relationships between family members may not always be perfect, and sometimes disagreements can lead to misunderstandings. In such cases, good communication is essential to avoid misunderstandings.

In a time influenced by digital technology where people are using social media, we often only see the happy situation of a family, and we are not shown the difficulties and problem within the household. Therefore, it is crucial to understand that the family environment is significant and affects individuals. Knowing your immediate surroundings is very important. For example in someone’s family environment, not many may understand the importance of higher education or continuing college, but in his school environment and his friends, the importance of education is often discussed, and it stimulate and  motivate him to follow that path, until he continue his study in higher education.

The speaker also discussed another perspective, describing how she used to be an active student who participated in various campus activities, such as student organizations, volunteering, and seminars to develop her soft skills. She said that, being an active student is one way to strive for your goals. Success is ultimately determined by a higher power (god), but as humans, we must make efforts to help us achieve those goals. It all starts with the small habits we develop as students now. These habits will have an impact on our future selves, so we should not neglect preparing for these important things.

In conclusion, she shared her experiences of how she reached where she is today, emphasizing that all success has its timing and is predetermined by God. She also talked about the importance of self-awareness, and most importantly, the extent of our efforts in achieving our dreams and highlighted the significant impact of small habits in our lives.
