Reflection on Academic speaking class

Gambar
This week in the Academic Speaking class, my lecturer, Mr. Udi, invited one of the outstanding students on campus, namely Kak Alfian Fajrin. He held a sharing session with us about the strategies and tips for studying abroad, explaining the process and sharing his experience. Kak Alfian is a very inspirational figure who emphasized that no matter the obstacles, keep trying because effort is the first step to achieving a dream, and trying is better than not trying at all.   First, we were asked to write down fun facts about ourselves. Then, we were asked to write down what we liked about learning the English language and which country we wanted to visit. I wrote that I wanted to go to the city of Leeds, England, for several reasons. Then, he told us about the process of how he got to South Korea, mentioning a project with friends from different regions. Through the successful project, he was able to go to Korea to present the results. He also shared the challenges he faced, includin...

AI and The Future of Humanity

Is AI the future of humanity today? Yufal Noah Harari, a speaker at a conference, explained the ecological crisis facing humanity, and in this case AI is part of the ecological crisis. AI can help us in many ways to overcome the ecological crisis or even worsen it. This of course depends on how someone understands and utilizes AI. In the 20th century, humans were generally afraid of the existence of AI, this was because AI had begun to operate like human capabilities. Even a computer can work to complete complex tasks such as mathematical calculations that initially could only be completed by humans. People panic about this because they are afraid that AI's abilities and intelligence will replace the abilities of humans, so they are afraid that they will lose their jobs because everyone uses AI intelligence. But we can see that currently AI is still in the early stages of development. AI can be classified into two main categories: 1. Narrow AI (or Weak AI): This type of AI is desig...

Reflection on Diplomatic Communication Tactics in English Material

Gambar
In the 9th week of my academic speaking class, my lecturer, Mr. Udi, covered the topic of diplomatic communication. He explained that there are the times when we have to communicate problems and we can say it exactly as it is. We communicate directly and there is no impact on the relationship. However, there are other times, when the situation is sensitive, the stakes are high, we do not know the other people well, or the relationship is key to develop such as in a negotiation or with external customers. In these situation, we may have to adapt our communication to be more diplomatic and use softened language to land negative messages in a way which reflects the context and relationship dynamic.   According to the explanation that has been provided above, what is actually diplomacy? Diplomacy is the process of negotiating between representatives of nations or groups in order to settle issues and develop partnerships.   Diplomacy in commu...

Digital Literacy in English Language Teaching

Digital literacy in education means knowing how to use computers and the internet for learning. This includes finding information online, checking if it's reliable, using educational apps, and working with others online. Many studies have shown that it is important for students and teachers to be good at digital stuff in the classroom. This helps students find information, think carefully about what they read online, talk to their classmates, and be ready for new technology in the future. So, digital literacy is a big deal for learning and teaching in today's world.   Teachers and students use digital tools and online applications to create effective learning experiences. They make online content that can be used for teaching and learning, and they change how lessons are taught, tests are given, and communication happens. However, there are several things that can be considered when applying digital technology in teaching method. First, teachers should know what students need...

Notes on The Results of Attending The Seminar about Life Changing-Experience

Gambar
Last week on Saturday, I attended a seminar about life-changing experiences from a speaker who is currently studying abroad at Queensland University of Technology. The speaker shared her experience of getting a scholarship and studying abroad. There were several things discussed by the speaker during the seminar. The first thing discussed was how important it is to know yourself, to understand your identity. This could include your role in your family, like being a child, and what you should do as a child in the family, like obeying your parents and being a good family member. Similarly, in our current identity in the educational environment, we need to understand our identity as students and our duty as students, which is to learn and grow to prepare ourselves for the future. Besides knowing our identity, the speaker also talked about the importance of understanding our environment, starting from a small scale like our family. For example, in a family, there might be some iss...
